“I had never exercised regularly during my 64 years of life until I started personal training sessions with Jeff Dorman almost 3 years ago. His kindness, patience, and unwavering & enthusiastic encouragement were the key ingredients that kept me motivated to regularly meet with him for 3 one-hour sessions per week. When I first met Jeff, I had experienced a fall that resulted in random knee pain. I visited an orthopedic physician who recommended cortisone shots to relieve the pain even though surgery was not recommended. Instead, I chose to seek out exercise as an alternative remedy. “I worked with Jeff following a back injury that had caused me severe sciatica and limited my range of movement. As a long distance runner, I was terrified of reinjuring my back and though I wanted to reintroduce lifting into my routine, I wasn’t sure how to do so without pain.
Jeff worked with me to look at my body holistically, uncover the imbalances that were feeding into my back problems, and to learn to trust my body again. I can’t thank Jeff enough—I’ve remained injury free and set PRs in every distance I race, but the biggest takeaway is that I’m not approaching my training from a place of fear. I feel confident in my ability to listen to my body thanks to the tools Jeff and I worked on together. While I’ve moved away from Richmond, I still use the dynamic warm-up and cool downs Jeff programmed for me daily.

“When I first began working with Jeff, I admittedly had no idea what I was doing when it came to working out in a gym. I had played sports when I was younger, but after years of working at a desk, despite living what I thought was an “active” lifestyle, I could feel my relationship with my body going downhill. I felt older, stiffer, and was in pain more often. I knew something had to change.
I was lucky to find Jeff—from the first session he made me feel welcome and comfortable in the gym, and didn’t make me feel negatively about my body.
He helped not only to diagnose small and large issues with my movement patterns, but educated me about where they came from, and worked with me to give me the tools to fix them. We started by building a foundation of movement and strength that still pays dividends for me even years later. Jeff was empathetic and mindful of my goals, and was excited to help me reach them.
